Aragon Photonics presents its DAS Solutions in Brussels for the European Critical Seabed Infrastructure Protection Project (CSIP)

Aragon Photonics continues to consolidate its position as a benchmark in high-precision fiber-optic instrumentation. In late January, company representatives traveled to Brussels to attend the Request for Information (RFI) session convened by the European Defence Agency (EDA). The objective of the meeting was to present the capabilities of Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) technology in the context of the Critical Seabed Infrastructure Protection (CSIP) project.

Advanced Technology for Sovereign Security

The CSIP project, framed within Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO), aims to enhance the European Union’s capabilities to monitor and protect infrastructures located on the seabed—such as data cables and energy pipelines—that are vital to continental security and the economy.

During the sessions, Aragon Photonics demonstrated how its DAS solutions enable standard deployed optical fiber to be transformed into a continuous sensing network. This technology provides early detection of potential threats or anomalies with meter-scale accuracy over tens of kilometers, delivering a strategic advantage in complex underwater environments.

Commitment to Defense Innovation

Attendance at this event in Brussels underscores Aragon Photonics’ commitment to innovation and international collaboration. The ability to monitor critical infrastructures in real time and remotely is now a strategic priority, and the technology developed in Zaragoza is at the forefront of addressing these global challenges.

Aragon Photonics participates in NATO’s 56th SET panel in La Spezia

In late October 2025, Aragon Photonics took part in the 56th Business Meeting of the Sensor Technology (SET) Panel of NATO’s Science & Technology Organization (STO). Held under the motto “Stronger Together”, the event took place at Cadimare Air Base (La Spezia, Italy) and was organized by the NATO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE).

The meeting brought together 65 experts from 21 nations, including delegations from Switzerland and the Republic of Korea, establishing itself as a critical forum for technological cooperation in defense.

During the working sessions, the potential of our Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) technology was highlighted. In collaboration with strategic partners, the capabilities of DAS as a dual-use technology for underwater defense were presented, demonstrating how fiber-optic distributed sensing enables high-precision monitoring in ocean environments—essential for the protection of critical infrastructures and maritime security.

Aragon Photonics joins the Aragón Defense Hub to boost technological innovation in the sector

Aragon Photonics has formalized its membership in the Aragón Defense Hub, a strategic initiative designed to structure the region’s industrial and technological ecosystem around the defense and security sector. With this step, the company reaffirms its commitment to developing advanced solutions and its willingness to collaborate on projects of high strategic value.

The Aragón Defense Hub was created to promote knowledge transfer and cooperation among companies, research centers, and the Armed Forces. For Aragon Photonics, this platform represents an ideal setting to apply its extensive experience in fiber-optic instrumentation and advanced photonics to the challenges of technological sovereignty and operational modernization.

Commitment to Excellence and Security

Integration into this cluster will allow the company to actively participate in the development of new critical capabilities. Aragon Photonics contributes its solid know-how in high-precision monitoring and sensing systems—essential components for the infrastructures and defense systems of the future.

“Our participation in the Hub is not only a growth opportunity, but a commitment to strengthening Aragón’s industrial ecosystem and national security,” the company’s management states. This initiative heralds a new phase of synergies that will position Aragón’s technology at the forefront of the sector.

Aragon Photonics drives innovation in Aragón’s dual-use technology ecosystem

As part of the 2nd SME Week organized by the Government of Aragón, Aragon Photonics actively participated in the event “Strategies in Dual-Use Technologies”, a key meeting that brought together leading players from the defense, aeronautics, and cybersecurity industries in the region.

During the roundtable discussion dedicated to the Dual-Use Ecosystem in Aragón, moderated by Inés Villa (Director General of AERA), our company presented its advances in advanced instrumentation. Aitor García, Technical Coordinator at Aragon Photonics, highlighted the potential of Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) technology for perimeter and asset monitoring in critical environments. This technology, based on advanced fiber-optic sensing, makes it possible to transform existing communication infrastructures into high-precision sensors—an essential capability for both civil and security and defense applications.

The event underscored the importance of public–private collaboration and Aragón’s strategic role as a hub for technological innovation. Aragon Photonics placed particular emphasis on the need to attract and retain highly qualified scientific talent—graduates and PhDs—to lead the development of distributed sensing solutions that ensure technological sovereignty and international competitiveness for Aragón’s industrial fabric.

Through this participation, Aragon Photonics reaffirms its commitment to developing cutting-edge technologies that address the challenges of an ever-evolving global environment, consolidating its position as a benchmark in applied photonics for dual-use environments.

Seismological Society of America: Annual Meeting 2025

We are excited to share that from April 14 to 18, 2025, we will be attending the Annual Meeting 2025 organized by the Seismological Society of America in Baltimore.

If you’re attending the event, don’t hesitate to stop by our booth #21 at the Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor. Our colleagues Jaime Ramírez, Diego Gella Bitrián, PhD, and Fermín García Lázaro will be there to talk about how our HDAS technology, based on Chirped Pulse, delivers outstanding performance for analyzing seismic events and contributing to the advancement of earth sciences.

We will also be presenting poster #55, which showcases the latest results and innovations made possible through HDAS. The poster, authored by our colleague Javier Preciado, explores how applying array seismology methods to Distributed Acoustic Sensing data from trackside fibers can reveal valuable insights into both terrain features and railway infrastructure.

🔹 Date: April 14–18, 2025
🔹 Location: Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor, Baltimore, USA
🔹 Booth: #21
🔹 Poster: #55

If you’re curious about how Aragón Photonics is revolutionizing seismology with photonic sensing, we’d love to see you there!

We hope to see you there!
