Unique y revolutionary technology

BLAST is a Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS), that allows for the precise measurement of temperature and strain values along a conventional fibre, is one of the most common DFOS techniques, with a wide range of uses and already stablished applications in different environments. Different methods and technologies can be employed to obtain DTS measurements.

Aragon Photonics presents a Brillouin Optical Time Domain Analyser (BOTDA) technology based DTSS capable of reliable and precise temperature measurements along a conventional fiber. Presented in an easy to use and highly configurable interrogator, it provides to both scientific and industrial groups an invaluable tool to develop new research and applications.

The application of distributed optical fiber sensors (BOTDA) to sinkhole monitoring.

Distributed optical fiber sensors (DOFS) are effective for monitoring subsidence and predicting collapses. In previous studies, they detected rapid subsidence well but faced challenges with slow sinkholes and undefined edges. In a real case in Alcalá, the data showed good correlation, although improving the monitoring system could increase accuracy.

Vertical Displacement Measurement in a Slow-Moving Sinkhole Using BOTDA

Slow-subsiding sinkholes with diffuse edges are difficult to monitor. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of Brillouin optical time domain analysis (BOTDA) for measuring vertical displacement in these cases, showing good spatial and temporal correlation with high-precision leveling measurements.
