Summary:

Electrical distribution infrastructures—particularly high voltage systems—need constant attention and monitoring. Accurate measurement of parameters like cable sag or elongation is essential because these parameters depend on several different variables. The goal of SODDIER project is to improve critical infrastructure monitoring and control in the production of renewable energy. It focuses on enhancing control applications for power plants and electrical energy transport structures by using optical fiber technology and dynamic distributed sensing of strain and temperature (DDTSS).

The project surpasses current distributed sensing standards by creatively utilizing advanced optical sources with temporal expansion. A partnership with the University of Alcalá de Henares will improve the distributed sensing offerings from Aragon Photonics. Flexible measurements up to 10 km with high acquisition frequency are made possible by this method, which can be used to regulate the distribution of electrical energy and monitor the production of renewable energy.

General objective:

The main goal of this project is to develop a distributed measurement prototype over optical fiber that can meet the specific needs of both scenarios at the same time, power plants and electrical energy transport structures. Aragon Photonics can enter a new market segment thanks to the laboratory prototype, which forms the basis for the company’s future developments.
